Under Control – screen printed art book by Sofija Pašalić created during the festival Den Längsta Natten 2022. The book is printed with black on white, white on black, and with a second hand made layer of acrylic spray paint, making each copy unique. Sofija Pašalić works fast with a free hand, free pen, pouring her stream of thought onto paper. This collection of drawings are loosely connected through a need to keep things under control, while the pages themselves dance freely and out of hand.
Sofija Pašalić is a print maker, illustrator, animator and member of the untameable art collective Matrijaršija in Belgrade, Serbia. She has studied graphic arts and bookmaking and is continuously pushing the creative boundaries of her craft. Her illustrations are fast, strong, playful, often dealing with people and their motions-their emotions in our consumerist online landscape. Shoppers, robots, commercials, constant stream of impressions, live stream of images, contemporary life isn’t that bad – just stupid and impossible. Heroes and heroines, gradients and fades, street art, generic “people”, vanity fair, paper dolls, humanoids, digesting billboards, the endless scroll, hit radio, youtube videos, a shopping mall point of view.
