“Flapping of wings” – screen printed graphic by Haky Jasim. This poster is one of four graphics printed during Haky’s residency at Longest Night in December 2021. All four are reprints of large wood cut prints printed by Haky in very small editions during the last 20 years. Find the other three, Road to Europe, Mona, and Flapping of wings II here.
Haky Jasim is a Bagdad-born artist who studied printmaking in Belgrade in the 80’s but moved to Gothenburg when the war started. Since 1992 he’s been active here as an artist, printmaker, teacher and activist, especially dedicated to the movement for building a centre for culture in Bergsjön. Haky’s deep cut graphics are crude, poetic and loud, often dealing with desperate political themes such as war, terrorism, occupation and refugees on the road.
